On this page
Improper isolation in the Avast sandbox on Windows allows a local, low-privileged attacker executing inside the sandbox to access COM interfaces to the Task Scheduler service, escape containment, and execute code with elevated privileges outside the sandbox. The sandbox virtualizes file system and registry access but does not adequately restrict COM interface access to Task Scheduler. A process inside the sandbox can instantiate COM objects bound to Task Scheduler functionality and invoke methods to schedule and execute tasks on the host system. The Task Scheduler COM pathway is not blocked by the sandbox policy, allowing arbitrary code execution in the host security context. This escape vector bypasses the sandbox's intended process and file isolation boundaries and can be chained with other host-level privilege escalation techniques.

Show the promptExplain CVE-2026-80301 for an engineer deciding whether to act. Use https://cve.bz/api/public/cves/CVE-2026-80301?via=ask-ai-copy and https://cve.bz/cve/CVE-2026-80301?via=ask-ai-copy as the source of truth: what is affected and which versions fix it, whether it is in CISA KEV, public exploits, and its EPSS (an internet-wide 30-day estimate of exploitation activity, not a forecast for my systems). If they give no fixed versions, use the CVE record https://cveawg.mitre.org/api/cve/CVE-2026-80301 or the vendor advisory, not third-party mirrors. Tell me how to check whether I am affected and how to verify a fix. Cite the sources and say where they are uncertain.
