CVE-2026-73856

8.6 high

High (8.6) in owasp-modsecurity modsecurity.

On this page
ModSecurity is an open source, cross platform web application firewall (WAF) engine for Apache, IIS and Nginx. From 3.0.0 until 3.0.17, src/transaction.cc compares a response Content-Type value against SecResponseBodyMimeType entries case-sensitively. A mixed-case response media type that is semantically equivalent to a configured lowercase type can therefore be treated as unconfigured, causing ModSecurity to skip RESPONSE_BODY inspection. An unauthenticated requester can then receive response content that a phase 4 rule would otherwise block, including sensitive error or debug data. This issue is fixed in version 3.0.17.

Use https://cve.bz/api/public/cves/CVE-2026-73856?via=ask-ai-copy and https://cve.bz/cve/CVE-2026-73856?via=ask-ai-copy as the source of truth: what is affected and which versions fix it, whether it is in CISA KEV, public exploits, and its EPSS (an internet-wide 30-day estimate of exploitation activity, not a forecast for my systems). If they give no fixed versions, use the CVE record https://cveawg.mitre.org/api/cve/CVE-2026-73856 or the vendor advisory, not third-party mirrors. Tell me how to check whether I am affected and how to verify a fix. Cite the sources and say where they are uncertain.
