{"cve":"CVE-2026-97711","nvd":{"published":"2026-09-29T16:17:19.000","modified":"2026-09-30T19:38:27.293","status":"Awaiting Analysis","description":"Serialize JavaScript serializes JavaScript values to a superset of JSON that includes regular expressions and functions. From 7.1.1 until 7.1.2, function values serialized by serialize-javascript are not fully protected against script-closing tags in attacker-influenced function source because SCRIPT_CLOSE_REGEXP can consume a second closing tag inside one match. When the serialized function is embedded in a script element, the surviving closing tag terminates the element early and causes the remaining output to be parsed as HTML, enabling cross-site scripting in the page origin. Only function values are affected; ordinary data values and options.isJSON output are unaffected. This issue is fixed in version 7.1.2.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:P/VC:N/VI:N/VA:N/SC:L/SI:L/SA:N","score":2.3},"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":["CWE-79"],"references":["https://github.com/yahoo/serialize-javascript/commit/2bdbaaff9cb8a4639135eb24cfcd383d3fefb534","https://github.com/yahoo/serialize-javascript/releases/tag/v7.1.2","https://github.com/yahoo/serialize-javascript/security/advisories/GHSA-gfhx-hw2g-v5hg"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:56:48.555445741+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-97711","score":0.00318,"percentile":0.24455,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-gfhx-hw2g-v5hg","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-gfhx-hw2g-v5hg","summary":"Serialize JavaScript: Cross-site scripting (XSS) via unescaped </script> in serialized function bodies","modified":"2026-09-30T16:00:18.940888700Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"serialize-javascript","purl":"pkg:npm/serialize-javascript","ranges":[">=7.1.1 <7.1.2"],"fixed":["7.1.2"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
