{"cve":"CVE-2026-97370","nvd":{"published":"2026-10-15T19:17:49.983","modified":"2026-10-16T20:04:29.760","status":"Deferred","description":"Junrar is an open source Java RAR archive library. Prior to 7.6.1, RarVM.ExecuteCode in src/main/java/com/github/junrar/unpack/vm/RarVM.java can repeatedly execute a VM_JMP instruction whose target is greater than or equal to the prepared program's codeSize. The setIP() function returns success without changing the instruction pointer or decrementing maxOpCount, and the jump handler continues before loop-end accounting, leaving both values unchanged. A crafted RAR4 archive can therefore keep an extraction thread in an infinite CPU loop and exhaust archive-processing worker capacity. The RAR virtual machine does not expose native process execution, so the supported impact is availability loss rather than code execution. This issue is fixed in version 7.6.1.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-835"],"references":["https://github.com/junrar/junrar/commit/687a09c42f46066447faa9179ee11314ad6d9afb","https://github.com/junrar/junrar/releases/tag/v7.6.1","https://github.com/junrar/junrar/security/advisories/GHSA-h9h9-2rmf-rvhp"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T23:00:53.604569364+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-97370","score":0.00402,"percentile":0.34208,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-h9h9-2rmf-rvhp","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-h9h9-2rmf-rvhp","summary":"Junrar: RarVM VM_JMP maxOpCount bypass causes infinite CPU loop during RAR4 extraction","modified":"2026-10-15T20:30:07.173215533Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"com.github.junrar:junrar","purl":"pkg:maven/com.github.junrar/junrar","ranges":["<7.6.1"],"fixed":["7.6.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
