{"cve":"CVE-2026-93283","nvd":{"published":"2026-09-24T16:17:25.690","modified":"2026-10-19T10:17:19.927","status":"Received","description":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\ni3c: master: Fix device_register() error path\n\nWhen device_register() fails in i3c_master_register_new_i3c_devs(),\nput_device() is called to drop the reference taken by\ndevice_register(). That drops the last reference, so the device's\nrelease callback i3c_device_release() runs and frees the i3c_device.\n\nTwo problems follow from that:\n\ni3c_device_release() does WARN_ON(i3cdev->desc), so it warns because\ndesc->dev->desc still points back at the descriptor. Clear it before\ncalling put_device().\n\nAfter put_device() frees the i3c_device, desc->dev is left pointing at\nfreed memory, so clear desc->dev as well. That prevents, for example,\ni3c_master_unregister_i3c_devs() seeing desc->dev as non-NULL and\ndereferencing it.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":[],"references":["https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/20a2b6df91fd782ef2ff551febef594d0b46a9a7","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/5bf498623f8397d45f85f14cd631c5e5a565c2fb","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/6ecf17bf5fe8da51a6e3fc9e03a76898fcc5c6cf","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/74be657d98a8d684c0475f3cbd450ef2a30ffc73","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/7ef12e1dd06e442eebf370f6e53c41bd056d0f22"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:56:02.509636177+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-93283","score":0.00196,"percentile":0.09234,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
