{"cve":"CVE-2026-93251","nvd":{"published":"2026-09-24T16:17:21.340","modified":"2026-10-21T13:21:06.840","status":"Received","description":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nACPI: bus: Introduce acpi_bus_get_primary_device()\n\nThe function used for obtaining the first \"physical\" device for which\nthe given ACPI one is the ACPI companion, acpi_get_first_physical_node(),\nmay return a stale device pointer (mostly in theory) because\nacpi_unbind_one() may run as a whole after dropping the ACPI device's\nphysical_node_lock in acpi_get_first_physical_node() and before it\nreturns. The last reference to the \"physical\" device may be dropped\nthen before the pointer to it is returned to the caller.\n\nIf that happens and the acpi_get_first_physical_node() caller invokes\nget_device() on the pointer obtained from it, which is done by the\nmajority of its callers, a use-after-free will occur.\n\nTo prepare for addressing this problem, introduce a new function for\ngetting the first \"physical\" device associated with the given ACPI one\n(the \"primary physical device\") that will also reference count the\ndevice in question before returning a pointer to it.\n\nMake that new function and acpi_get_first_physical_node() share the\nphysical node list lookup code.\n\nNo intentional functional impact.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":[],"references":["https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/50ddd82b88b1d1cc467b5df953344c1a9feec268","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/5657859851abb65105220a6cdb5804926249f714","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/72530e1f72b0515a73fd88292254d04fecf03649","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/ebdd932dc24c1cf7cc31710b7730515e4e66d886","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/fd4f907b558721716da30acd6630191acf811b95"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-22T16:41:11.231219466+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-93251","score":0.00208,"percentile":0.10766,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
