{"cve":"CVE-2026-92599","nvd":{"published":"2026-09-16T22:18:30.980","modified":"2026-09-22T20:25:55.870","status":"Awaiting Analysis","description":"joi (npm package `joi`, hapi.js) versions >=17.2.0 <17.13.7 and >=18.0.0 <18.2.6 are vulnerable to regular expression denial of service in the `Joi.string().isoDate()` validation rule. One of the regular expressions the rule applies to the input is unanchored, so a valid ISO date followed by a long run of fractional-second digits causes the regex engine to restart its search from every position in the string, yielding time proportional to the square of the input length (about 1.4 s for 64 KB of digits and about 22 s for 256 KB). A remote attacker who can supply a string to an isoDate validation can stall the application with a single request. Fixed in 17.13.7 and 18.2.6; as a workaround, cap the length of the string before it reaches joi.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":8.7},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-1333"],"references":["https://github.com/hapijs/joi/security/advisories/GHSA-6h2x-m376-mqjq","https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/joi-before-17.13.7-and-18.2.6-redos-via-isodate"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:54:41.405518556+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-92599","score":0.00582,"percentile":0.47802,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-6h2x-m376-mqjq","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-6h2x-m376-mqjq","summary":"joi: Quadratic regular-expression backtracking in `Joi.string().isoDate()`","modified":"2026-10-05T23:45:07.542652334Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"joi","purl":"pkg:npm/joi","ranges":[">=17.2.0 <17.13.7"],"fixed":["17.13.7"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"joi","purl":"pkg:npm/joi","ranges":[">=18.0.0 <18.2.6"],"fixed":["18.2.6"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
