This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to extract download the most recently admin-decrypted SQL database backup, which typically contains password hashes, user credentials, and other sensitive site configuration data stored in the 'recent_decrypted_file' option. Exploitation requires that an administrator has previously performed a decrypt action, causing the decrypted SQL backup file to exist in the plugin's upload directory; without this prior admin action, there is no file to serve.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":6.5},"cwes":["CWE-862"],"references":["https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/wp-time-capsule/tags/1.22.26/Views/wptc-download-file.php#L23","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/wp-time-capsule/tags/1.22.26/wp-time-capsule.php#L3764","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/wp-time-capsule/tags/1.22.26/wp-time-capsule.php#L410","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/wp-time-capsule/trunk/Views/wptc-download-file.php#L23","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/wp-time-capsule/trunk/wp-time-capsule.php#L3764"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:44:02.134301115+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-8996","score":0.00475,"percentile":0.41081,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
