{"cve":"CVE-2026-89091","nvd":{"published":"2026-10-08T22:17:35.777","modified":"2026-10-09T16:37:45.710","status":"Awaiting Analysis","description":"A flaw was found in ansible-core. When installing a collection with\n`ansible-galaxy collection install`, the archive extractor validates member\npaths using lexical path normalisation (os.path.abspath) instead of resolving\nsymbolic links (os.path.realpath), and it performs no containment check on\nsymlink-typed directory members before creating them. A crafted collection\ntarball can chain symlink directory entries so that a subsequent file member is\nwritten outside the intended destination directory. This allows an attacker who\ncan get a victim to install a malicious collection to overwrite arbitrary files\nwith the privileges of the user running ansible-galaxy, leading to code\nexecution on the control node. This is a bypass of the fix for CVE-2020-10691.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":8.8},"cwes":["CWE-59"],"references":["https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-89091","https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2531646"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:58:01.639778232+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-89091","score":0.0048,"percentile":0.41114,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
