{"cve":"CVE-2026-88053","nvd":{"published":"2026-09-10T18:18:14.460","modified":"2026-09-16T16:14:31.130","status":"Analyzed","description":"Tesseract is an open source OCR engine. In version 5.5.3 and earlier, Classify::ReadIntTemplates in src/classify/intproto.cpp reads NumClassPruners, NumClasses, and NumProtoSets from the TESSDATA_INTTEMP component of a crafted .traineddata file and uses those values as loop bounds without validating them against MAX_NUM_CLASS_PRUNERS, MAX_NUM_CLASSES, and MAX_NUM_PROTO_SETS. The loops store heap pointers into fixed-capacity ClassPruners and ProtoSets arrays in INT_TEMPLATES_STRUCT and INT_CLASS_STRUCT, so an oversized count causes heap out-of-bounds pointer writes during legacy-classifier initialization before OCR begins, resulting in heap corruption, a crash, or potentially controlled corruption. No fixed release is available as of this review.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":8.6},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.8},"cwes":["CWE-787"],"references":["https://github.com/tesseract-ocr/tesseract/commit/8b0574680f3b22f246ade6a4c8e3029104255c63","https://github.com/tesseract-ocr/tesseract/security/advisories/GHSA-rphx-x795-5qjv","https://github.com/tesseract-ocr/tesseract/security/advisories/GHSA-rphx-x795-5qjv"],"products":["tesseract-ocr:tesseract_ocr"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:52:53.108888569+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-88053","score":0.00176,"percentile":0.07054,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
