{"cve":"CVE-2026-88049","nvd":{"published":"2026-09-10T17:17:09.087","modified":"2026-09-14T20:01:48.403","status":"Analyzed","description":"Tesseract is an open source OCR engine. In version 5.5.3 and earlier, prior .traineddata hardening added bounds checks to NetworkIO::CopyTimeStepGeneral and NetworkIO::Randomize in src/lstm/networkio.cpp but left NetworkIO::WriteTimeStepPart and NetworkIO::AddTimeStepPart unchecked. In LSTM::Forward in src/lstm/lstm.cpp, source_ is sized from the independently deserialized na_ field while the WriteTimeStepPart count is ns_, which comes from the CI gate WeightMatrix dim1() value. A crafted NT_LSTM layer can make ns_ much larger than na_, causing a heap out-of-bounds write during the first recognition step on the default LSTM engine and resulting in heap corruption, a crash, or potentially controlled corruption. No fixed release is available as of this review.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":8.6},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":5.5},"cwes":["CWE-787"],"references":["https://github.com/tesseract-ocr/tesseract/commit/b494ac18925f9d9aff9ef5815475de9943ab19bf","https://github.com/tesseract-ocr/tesseract/security/advisories/GHSA-jgq8-pprg-vc68","https://github.com/tesseract-ocr/tesseract/security/advisories/GHSA-jgq8-pprg-vc68"],"products":["tesseract-ocr:tesseract_ocr"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:52:53.108888569+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-88049","score":0.0015,"percentile":0.04168,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
