{"cve":"CVE-2026-87776","nvd":{"published":"2026-09-11T12:16:52.530","modified":"2026-09-16T19:40:00.317","status":"Awaiting Analysis","description":"compression is a Node.js and Express compression middleware. In versions before 1.8.2, when a client aborts the connection while a compressed response is still being sent, the zlib stream created to compress that response is never destroyed, so each aborted compressed response leaks its native zlib memory. A remote unauthenticated attacker can repeatedly open requests and disconnect early, exhausting the available memory and crashing the server. All applications using compression are affected. The issue is fixed in compression 1.8.2, and users should upgrade to 1.8.2 or later.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-401","CWE-459"],"references":["https://cna.openjsf.org/security-advisories.html","https://github.com/expressjs/compression/security/advisories/GHSA-vc2v-76pw-4v95"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:52:53.108888569+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-87776","score":0.00477,"percentile":0.41243,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-vc2v-76pw-4v95","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-vc2v-76pw-4v95","summary":"compression vulnerable to Denial of Service via memory leak on premature response close","modified":"2026-10-05T23:45:07.378615963Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"compression","purl":"pkg:npm/compression","ranges":["<1.8.2"],"fixed":["1.8.2"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
