{"cve":"CVE-2026-86063","nvd":{"published":"2026-10-13T19:21:21.417","modified":"2026-10-13T21:19:36.730","status":"Awaiting Analysis","description":"Claude Code is an agentic coding tool. Prior to 2.1.179, the Claude Code and Claude Desktop plugin installation flow runs git checkout for a marketplace-pinned commit without verifying that the resulting HEAD equals the pinned 40-character SHA. An attacker who controls a plugin repository on a Git host that permits SHA-shaped branch names can create a branch named after the reviewed commit, causing checkout to select the branch tip and install attacker-controlled plugin code. Exploitation requires a user to install the malicious plugin and pin it to the ostensibly safe hash. This issue is fixed in version 2.1.179.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:A/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":7.5},"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":["CWE-494","CWE-829"],"references":["https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code/releases/tag/v2.1.179","https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code/security/advisories/GHSA-pq7j-f95f-qfcv"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:59:28.494260111+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-86063","score":0.00172,"percentile":0.06502,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-pq7j-f95f-qfcv","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-pq7j-f95f-qfcv","summary":"Claude Code: Plugin Hash Pin Bypass Allows Bypass of Hash Pinning","modified":"2026-10-15T20:30:08.558907946Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@anthropic-ai/claude-code","purl":"pkg:npm/%40anthropic-ai/claude-code","ranges":["<2.1.179"],"fixed":["2.1.179"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
