{"cve":"CVE-2026-84890","nvd":{"published":"2026-09-04T18:18:01.633","modified":"2026-09-11T16:55:29.047","status":"Analyzed","description":"undici's decompress interceptor decompresses response bodies according to the untrusted Content-Encoding header. While the number of content-encoding layers is capped, the total decompressed output size is unbounded and there is no configuration option to limit it. A malicious or faulty upstream can therefore return a small compressed payload, a compression bomb, that expands to hundreds of megabytes or more in client memory, an asymmetric resource consumption that can exhaust memory and crash the process. This affects undici versions from 7.15.0 up to 7.29.1 and from 8.0.0 up to 8.10.2. Users should upgrade to undici 7.29.1 or 8.10.2.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":5.9},"cwes":["CWE-770"],"references":["https://cna.openjsf.org/security-advisories.html","https://github.com/nodejs/undici/security/advisories/GHSA-3xpg-4rpp-hhhm"],"products":["nodejs:undici"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:52:03.409947763+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-84890","score":0.00412,"percentile":0.3549,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-3xpg-4rpp-hhhm","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-3xpg-4rpp-hhhm","summary":"undici vulnerable to Denial of Service via unbounded decompression of compressed responses","modified":"2026-09-29T18:30:41.143057118Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"undici","purl":"pkg:npm/undici","ranges":[">=7.15.0 <7.29.1"],"fixed":["7.29.1"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"undici","purl":"pkg:npm/undici","ranges":[">=8.0.0 <8.10.2"],"fixed":["8.10.2"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
