{"cve":"CVE-2026-84366","nvd":{"published":"2026-09-01T21:18:47.593","modified":"2026-09-09T21:09:13.080","status":"Deferred","description":"Scrapy is a high-level web crawling and scraping framework for Python. Prior to 2.17.0, in scrapy/core/downloader/handlers/s3.py, Scrapy's S3DownloadHandler converts an S3-scheme bucket and key request into a plaintext HTTP request to the corresponding S3 endpoint unless request.meta[\"is_secure\"] is explicitly enabled, then signs and sends the plaintext request with configured AWS credentials. A network attacker who can observe traffic between Scrapy and S3 can read the bucket and key path, AWS Authorization header, X-Amz-Security-Token when temporary credentials are used, S3 object contents, and S3 response headers. An active man-in-the-middle attacker can also modify the plaintext S3 response body, status code, and headers before Scrapy processes them, causing scraped-data poisoning, poisoned exports, HTTP cache poisoning when caching is enabled, or influence over later crawl targets through forged redirects or attacker-controlled links. Users making S3-scheme requests with AWS credentials are affected. This issue is fixed in version 2.17.0.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N","score":7.4},"cwes":["CWE-319"],"references":["https://github.com/scrapy/scrapy/commit/9523e1ec8c41fde265a26d14563d178b6f1ad04b","https://github.com/scrapy/scrapy/releases/tag/2.17.0","https://github.com/scrapy/scrapy/security/advisories/GHSA-76g3-c3x4-crvx"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:50:50.842544443+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-84366","score":0.00254,"percentile":0.17087,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-76g3-c3x4-crvx","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-76g3-c3x4-crvx","summary":"Scrapy: S3DownloadHandler sends signed S3 requests over plaintext HTTP by default","modified":"2026-09-10T12:26:03.325611763Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"scrapy","purl":"pkg:pypi/scrapy","ranges":["<2.17"],"fixed":["2.17"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-3918","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-3918","summary":"Scrapy: S3DownloadHandler sends signed S3 requests over plaintext HTTP by default","modified":"2026-09-10T12:15:11.853400838Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"scrapy","purl":"pkg:pypi/scrapy","ranges":["<2.17.0"],"fixed":["2.17.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
