This is due to incorrect return-value handling in the `is_mainwp_authenticated()` function when validating application passwords from the Authorization header. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers, with knowledge of an administrator username, to impersonate that administrator for the duration of the request by supplying any random Basic Authentication password achieving privilege escalation.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":9.8},"cwes":["CWE-287"],"references":["https://github.com/Burst-Statistics/burst-statistics/blob/2488d3fa54045e7e5342b0445b9f6b5eaac9ea7c/includes/Frontend/class-mainwp-proxy.php#L385","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/burst-statistics/tags/3.4.1.1/includes/Frontend/class-mainwp-proxy.php#L314","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/burst-statistics/tags/3.4.1.1/includes/Frontend/class-mainwp-proxy.php#L328","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/burst-statistics/tags/3.4.1.1/includes/Frontend/class-mainwp-proxy.php#L336","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/burst-statistics/tags/3.4.1.1/includes/Traits/trait-admin-helper.php#L205"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:35:16.954578616+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-8181","score":0.14608,"percentile":0.96652,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
