{"cve":"CVE-2026-81714","nvd":{"published":"2026-08-27T17:21:01.590","modified":"2026-09-02T13:09:21.383","status":"Analyzed","description":"openssl_encrypt (pip: openssl-encrypt) versions <= 1.4.8 use suffix-tolerant fingerprint matching in enroll_trust_key when binding a plugin-signing trust anchor. An operator who confirms a short (forgeable, ~32-bit) GPG key id could unknowingly enroll an attacker's colliding key as a trusted anchor, which then vouches for malicious plugins under the ENFORCE signature policy. Version 1.4.9 fixes this by requiring the confirmed value to exactly match the full primary-key fingerprint (case-insensitive, whitespace-stripped).","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":9.3},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.0},"cwes":["CWE-347"],"references":["https://github.com/jahlives/openssl_encrypt/security/advisories/GHSA-xg52-638v-jc5m","https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/openssl-encrypt-before-1.4.9-plugin-signing-trust-anchor-enrollment-bypass"],"products":["jahlives:openssl_encrypt"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:50:17.453294893+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-81714","score":0.00199,"percentile":0.09714,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"PYSEC-2026-3799","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-3799","summary":"","modified":"2026-09-03T11:00:05.946642329Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"openssl-encrypt","purl":"pkg:pypi/openssl-encrypt","ranges":["<1.4.9"],"fixed":["1.4.9"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
