{"cve":"CVE-2026-77157","nvd":{"published":"2026-10-22T18:17:29.630","modified":"2026-10-23T19:57:42.660","status":"Deferred","description":"ast-cli downloads two helper binaries, the Vorpal ASCA real-time engine and the SCA Resolver, from \"download.checkmarx.com\" as part of its auto-update flow, triggered by the Checkmarx’s \"VSCode/JetBrains\" extensions and by cx scan \"sca-realtime\".\n\n\n\nPrior to the fix, the downloaded archive was not verified against a checksum before extraction and execution. An attacker able to substitute the served archive could deliver an arbitrary binary that ast-cli would extract and execute the contents of the archive, since no integrity check was performed on the download.\n\n\n\nSuccessful exploitation requires compromising \"download.checkmarx.com\" and replacing the served archive with one containing an attacker-controlled binary. If the served archive had been replaced that way, any developer machine or CI pipeline invoking ASCA (via Checkmarx's VSCode/JetBrains extensions) or cx scan \"sca-realtime\" on an affected version would have extracted and executed that binary in place of the intended download.\n\n\n\nThe download is now verified against a published SHA-256 checksum before extraction.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:H/UI:P/VC:N/VI:N/VA:N/SC:H/SI:H/SA:H","score":6.3},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:H/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":6.4},"cwes":["CWE-353"],"references":["https://github.com/Checkmarx/ast-cli","https://github.com/Checkmarx/ast-cli/security/advisories/GHSA-vf6p-x2fw-5hcg"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-24T16:53:35.584907681+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-77157","score":0.00143,"percentile":0.03551,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
