{"cve":"CVE-2026-74758","nvd":{"published":"2026-10-21T12:17:22.863","modified":"2026-10-22T16:56:37.023","status":"Deferred","description":"A heap use-after-free in the RTMP protocol component of Apache bRPC (versions < 1.18.0) allows a remote attacker to crash a bRPC RTMP server by sending a crafted Abort control message. No authentication or application-level request is required.\n\nRoot Cause:\nWhen an RTMP Abort control message names the chunk stream that is currently being parsed (the chunk stream carrying the message itself), RtmpChunkStream::OnAbortMessage calls RtmpContext::ClearChunkStream, which deletes the RtmpChunkStream while its Feed() is still running. After the message handler returns, Feed() continues to access members of the deleted object, resulting in a heap-use-after-free.\n\nAffected Scenarios:\nbRPC servers that enable RTMP support (ServerOptions.rtmp_service set) and accept connections from untrusted networks.\n\nHow to Fix:\n1. Upgrade bRPC to version 1.18.0, which fixes this issue.\n2. Apply this patch:  https://github.com/apache/brpc/pull/3452 \n\nThe fix skips clearing the chunk stream when the Abort message targets the chunk stream that is currently being parsed.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":["CWE-416"],"references":["https://lists.apache.org/thread/2pf15ojj0vr7rtx95677kgtl1mx3gdgb"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-23T16:39:26.291718493+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-74758","score":0.00243,"percentile":0.15388,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
