{"cve":"CVE-2026-73644","nvd":{"published":"2026-08-13T18:18:20.093","modified":"2026-10-24T15:10:00.190","status":"Deferred","description":"OpenDJ is an LDAPv3 compliant directory service. Prior to 5.1.2, the SASL PLAIN authorization identity path in opendj-server-legacy/src/main/java/org/opends/server/extensions/PlainSASLMechanismHandler.java checked the PROXIED_AUTH privilege but did not evaluate the mayProxy proxy ACI scope when an authzid resolved to a different user. Both dn: and u: or bare authzid forms could therefore let an authenticated account holding PROXIED_AUTH assume any resolvable non-root identity outside the identities permitted by its proxy ACI. The fix returns INVALID_CREDENTIALS (49) before password verification when the target authorization identity is not permitted. This issue is fixed in version 5.1.2.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:N","score":9.6},"cwes":["CWE-285","CWE-639"],"references":["https://github.com/OpenIdentityPlatform/OpenDJ/commit/5c326850f1ab945cfca7ac9c5aaf77d1052c6bed","https://github.com/OpenIdentityPlatform/OpenDJ/releases/tag/5.1.2","https://github.com/OpenIdentityPlatform/OpenDJ/security/advisories/GHSA-p279-2cqp-84jg"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-24T16:53:35.584907681+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-73644","score":0.00413,"percentile":0.35226,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-p279-2cqp-84jg","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-p279-2cqp-84jg","summary":"OpenDJ SASL PLAIN authzid bypassing the proxy ACI scope check","modified":"2026-08-13T18:10:56.305354Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.openidentityplatform.opendj:opendj-server-legacy","purl":"pkg:maven/org.openidentityplatform.opendj/opendj-server-legacy","ranges":["<5.1.2"],"fixed":["5.1.2"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
