{"cve":"CVE-2026-73428","nvd":{"published":"2026-08-13T22:17:26.587","modified":"2026-09-18T20:09:01.757","status":"Deferred","description":"Trix is a what-you-see-is-what-you-get rich text editor for everyday writing. Prior to 2.1.18, Trix is vulnerable to stored cross-site scripting when crafted HTML is pasted into the editor. HTMLParser processes a mock attachment in a `<span>` with an empty `data-trix-attachment=\"{}\"` value, causing data-trix-attributes to be applied to a plain string piece. StringPiece.fromJSON accepts an unvalidated href, allowing a javascript: URI to enter the document model and serialized HTML and execute when another user renders and clicks the content. Applications that apply server-side HTML sanitization can neutralize the payload on save. This issue is fixed in version 2.1.18.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N","score":4.6},"cwes":["CWE-79"],"references":["https://github.com/basecamp/trix/commit/9c0a993d9fc2ffe9d56b013b030bc238f9c0557c","https://github.com/basecamp/trix/pull/1293","https://github.com/basecamp/trix/releases/tag/v2.1.18","https://github.com/basecamp/trix/security/advisories/GHSA-53g2-mvcc-q9x3"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:48:17.459049833+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-73428","score":0.00353,"percentile":0.29008,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-53g2-mvcc-q9x3","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-53g2-mvcc-q9x3","summary":"Trix: Stored XSS via HTMLParser attribute injection on paste","modified":"2026-08-12T21:11:05.764982Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"trix","purl":"pkg:npm/trix","ranges":["<2.1.18"],"fixed":["2.1.18"]},{"ecosystem":"RubyGems","name":"action_text-trix","purl":"pkg:gem/action_text-trix","ranges":["<2.1.18"],"fixed":["2.1.18"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
