{"cve":"CVE-2026-73427","nvd":{"published":"2026-08-12T21:17:41.613","modified":"2026-10-24T15:10:00.190","status":"Deferred","description":"Trix is a what-you-see-is-what-you-get rich text editor for everyday writing. Prior to 2.1.18, Trix is vulnerable to cross-site scripting when a crafted application/x-trix-document JSON payload is dropped into an editor using the fallback Level0InputController, such as an embedded WebView without Input Events Level 2 support. The StringPiece.fromJSON method trusts href attributes from the JSON payload without sanitization, allowing a draggable element containing a javascript: URI to bypass DOMPurify sanitization and inject executable JavaScript into the DOM. Exploitation requires the victim to drag and drop attacker-controlled content, and server-side HTML sanitization can neutralize the payload on save. This issue is fixed in version 2.1.18.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:A/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":2.1},"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":["CWE-79"],"references":["https://github.com/basecamp/trix/commit/9c0a993d9fc2ffe9d56b013b030bc238f9c0557c","https://github.com/basecamp/trix/pull/1293","https://github.com/basecamp/trix/releases/tag/v2.1.18","https://github.com/basecamp/trix/security/advisories/GHSA-53p3-c7vp-4mcc"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-24T16:53:35.584907681+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-73427","score":0.00575,"percentile":0.47149,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-53p3-c7vp-4mcc","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-53p3-c7vp-4mcc","summary":"Trix is vulnerable to XSS through JSON deserialization bypass in drag-and-drop (Level0InputController)","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:59.722458333Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"trix","purl":"pkg:npm/trix","ranges":["<2.1.18"],"fixed":["2.1.18"]},{"ecosystem":"RubyGems","name":"action_text-trix","purl":"pkg:gem/action_text-trix","ranges":["<2.1.18"],"fixed":["2.1.18"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
