Prior to 2.1.17, Trix is vulnerable to cross-site scripting when a data-trix-serialized-attributes attribute bypasses the DOMPurify sanitizer. An attacker can craft HTML containing a data-trix-serialized-attributes attribute with a malicious payload that, when rendered, executes arbitrary JavaScript in the user's session and may perform unauthorized actions or disclose sensitive information. This issue is fixed in version 2.1.17.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N","score":4.6},"cwes":["CWE-79"],"references":["https://github.com/basecamp/trix/commit/3229c29c771ded4d247ed79b2ccd2cd05c4e74b4","https://github.com/basecamp/trix/commit/53197ab5a142e6b0b76127cb790726b274eaf1bc","https://github.com/basecamp/trix/pull/1282","https://github.com/basecamp/trix/releases/tag/v2.1.17","https://github.com/basecamp/trix/security/advisories/GHSA-qmpg-8xg6-ph5q"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-23T16:39:26.291718493+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-73426","score":0.0032,"percentile":0.24792,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-qmpg-8xg6-ph5q","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-qmpg-8xg6-ph5q","summary":"Trix has a Stored XSS vulnerability through serialized attributes","modified":"2026-09-10T03:51:00.638535568Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"RubyGems","name":"action_text-trix","purl":"pkg:gem/action_text-trix","ranges":["<2.1.17"],"fixed":["2.1.17"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"trix","purl":"pkg:npm/trix","ranges":["<2.1.17"],"fixed":["2.1.17"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
