Prior to 0.6.0, group_comments in sqlparse/engine/grouping.py repeatedly rescans comment-only statements before the MAX_GROUPING_TOKENS guard, causing quadratic CPU consumption through sqlparse.parse() and sqlparse.format(sql, strip_comments=True). This issue is fixed in version 0.6.0.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":8.7},"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":["CWE-400","CWE-407"],"references":["https://github.com/andialbrecht/sqlparse/commit/ef2012a5eeb491e604dea2b00d516904a3830c87","https://github.com/andialbrecht/sqlparse/security/advisories/GHSA-f2ff-p2ww-7p4p"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-23T16:39:26.291718493+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-71491","score":0.00263,"percentile":0.17941,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-f2ff-p2ww-7p4p","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-f2ff-p2ww-7p4p","summary":"sqlparse: Quadratic O(n²) DoS in group_comments","modified":"2026-09-10T03:51:13.976175178Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"sqlparse","purl":"pkg:pypi/sqlparse","ranges":["<0.6.0"],"fixed":["0.6.0"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-3697","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-3697","summary":"sqlparse: Quadratic O(n²) DoS in group_comments","modified":"2026-08-19T12:45:05.582986917Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"sqlparse","purl":"pkg:pypi/sqlparse","ranges":["<0.6.0"],"fixed":["0.6.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
