{"cve":"CVE-2026-70601","nvd":{"published":"2026-08-05T16:17:04.203","modified":"2026-10-08T13:54:09.117","status":"Analyzed","description":"Electron is a framework for writing cross-platform desktop applications using JavaScript, HTML and CSS. Prior to 39.8.9, 40.9.2, 41.2.2, and 42.0.0-beta.5, apps that expose Promise-returning functions to web content via contextBridge may be vulnerable to a context isolation bypass. Untrusted web content could obtain access to the isolated preload world and, through it, every capability the preload script has. In renderers without a sandbox, or with nodeIntegration enabled, this may escalate to Node.js access. Apps are affected if they expose Promise-returning functions via contextBridge, the standard pattern for wrapping ipcRenderer.invoke, in windows that load untrusted content. This issue is fixed in versions 39.8.9, 40.9.2, 41.2.2, and 42.0.0-beta.5.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-693"],"references":["https://github.com/electron/electron/security/advisories/GHSA-h7rp-cf8h-j98x"],"products":["electronjs:electron"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:47:10.050265369+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-70601","score":0.00285,"percentile":0.20842,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-h7rp-cf8h-j98x","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-h7rp-cf8h-j98x","summary":"Electron: Context isolation bypass via Function.prototype.bind hijack","modified":"2026-08-05T16:11:06.732823Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"electron","purl":"pkg:npm/electron","ranges":["<39.8.9"],"fixed":["39.8.9"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"electron","purl":"pkg:npm/electron","ranges":[">=40.0.0-alpha.1 <40.9.2"],"fixed":["40.9.2"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"electron","purl":"pkg:npm/electron","ranges":[">=41.0.0-alpha.1 <41.2.2"],"fixed":["41.2.2"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"electron","purl":"pkg:npm/electron","ranges":[">=42.0.0-alpha.1 <42.0.0-beta.5"],"fixed":["42.0.0-beta.5"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
