{"cve":"CVE-2026-70599","nvd":{"published":"2026-08-05T16:17:03.913","modified":"2026-10-08T13:54:19.333","status":"Analyzed","description":"Electron is a framework for writing cross-platform desktop applications using JavaScript, HTML and CSS. Prior to 39.8.7, 40.9.0, 41.2.0, and 42.0.0-beta.1, serial-port and media permission checks made from an iframe passed the top-level frame origin to session.setPermissionCheckHandler instead of the requesting iframe origin. Origin-based handler logic could grant a cross-origin iframe device access intended only for the top-level origin. This issue is fixed in 39.8.7, 40.9.0, 41.2.0, and 42.0.0-beta.1.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":5.9},"cwes":["CWE-346"],"references":["https://github.com/electron/electron/commit/0cbdf2f0375466d701aa393c92e0ec29eb89ea6c","https://github.com/electron/electron/security/advisories/GHSA-9pf5-hg6p-4pwp"],"products":["electronjs:electron"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:47:10.050265369+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-70599","score":0.00193,"percentile":0.08934,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-9pf5-hg6p-4pwp","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-9pf5-hg6p-4pwp","summary":"Electron: Permission Check Handler Receives Main Frame Origin Instead of Requesting Iframe Origin","modified":"2026-08-05T15:56:01.262988Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"electron","purl":"pkg:npm/electron","ranges":["<39.8.7"],"fixed":["39.8.7"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"electron","purl":"pkg:npm/electron","ranges":[">=40.0.0-alpha.1 <40.9.0"],"fixed":["40.9.0"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"electron","purl":"pkg:npm/electron","ranges":[">=41.0.0-alpha.1 <41.2.0"],"fixed":["41.2.0"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"electron","purl":"pkg:npm/electron","ranges":[">=42.0.0-alpha.1 <42.0.0-beta.1"],"fixed":["42.0.0-beta.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
