{"cve":"CVE-2026-68579","nvd":{"published":"2026-08-02T13:16:53.800","modified":"2026-09-29T16:17:08.470","status":"Analyzed","description":"FreeRDP before 3.30.0 (<= 3.29.0) contains a heap-based buffer overflow in the Windows clipboard client's CliprdrStream_Read function (client/Windows/wf_cliprdr.c). When an OLE paste consumer (e.g. explorer.exe) calls IStream::Read with a fixed-size buffer of cb bytes, CliprdrStream_Read requests file contents from the RDP server and then copies the response into the caller's buffer using the server-supplied length (req_fsize) instead of cb. A malicious or compromised RDP server can return an oversized CB_FILECONTENTS_RESPONSE, causing an out-of-bounds write of attacker-controlled data into the paste consumer's heap buffer when a user pastes server-offered clipboard file contents.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":8.7},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:H/A:H","score":9.6},"cwes":["CWE-787"],"references":["https://github.com/FreeRDP/FreeRDP/commit/5e8e987b469b60a3bafadf8f5afc40f91c09f458","https://github.com/FreeRDP/FreeRDP/security/advisories/GHSA-m37j-jcr2-8gcc","https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/freerdp-before-heap-overflow-via-cliprdrstream-read"],"products":["freerdp:freerdp"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:47:10.050265369+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-68579","score":0.00479,"percentile":0.41364,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
