{"cve":"CVE-2026-59985","nvd":{"published":"2026-08-25T19:16:51.820","modified":"2026-09-09T21:07:31.353","status":"Deferred","description":"OpenEXR is the reference implementation and specification for the EXR image format, widely used in the motion picture industry. OpenEXR versions 3.2.0 through 3.2.10, 3.3.0 through 3.3.12, and 3.4.0 through 3.4.13 are vulnerable on ILP32 builds to a heap out-of-bounds read. The issue occurs when a crafted RLE-compressed EXR causes the 64-bit unpacked size to truncate before allocation in OpenEXRCore decoding.c and unpack_32bit() reads beyond the resulting buffer, allowing denial of service. This issue is fixed in versions 3.2.11, 3.3.13, and 3.4.14.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":5.5},"cwes":["CWE-125"],"references":["https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/openexr/releases/tag/v3.2.11","https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/openexr/releases/tag/v3.3.13","https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/openexr/releases/tag/v3.4.14","https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/openexr/security/advisories/GHSA-v6v5-344m-64vm","https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/openexr/security/advisories/GHSA-v6v5-344m-64vm"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:50:17.453294893+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-59985","score":0.00172,"percentile":0.06567,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
