{"cve":"CVE-2026-59680","nvd":{"published":"2026-09-01T10:17:13.160","modified":"2026-09-02T04:17:59.917","status":"Awaiting Analysis","description":"An OS command injection vulnerability was found in yast2-users. When displaying the \"Password Settings\" tab of a user, get_password_term() in src/include/users/dialogs.rb read the shadowLastChange and shadowExpire fields with GetString(), which performs no numeric validation, and passed the resulting string to format_days_after_epoch(). That helper interpolated the value into a shell command executed via Ruby backticks without quoting or escaping.\n\nImpact: an administrator who manages users against an external/federated LDAP directory via `yast2 users` triggers root command execution the moment they view or edit that particular user's \"Password Settings\" tab. No \"join domain\" or trust setup is required, just browsing/editing one user entry.\n\nThis issue affects yast2-users through 5.0.8.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:P/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":8.6},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":8.0},"cwes":["CWE-78","CWE-1287"],"references":["https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1272839"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:50:50.842544443+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-59680","score":0.01581,"percentile":0.75528,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
