{"cve":"CVE-2026-57163","nvd":{"published":"2026-09-04T18:17:54.547","modified":"2026-09-11T15:51:33.793","status":"Analyzed","description":"PJSIP is a free and open source multimedia communication library written in C. Prior to commit c4a151a, a stack buffer overflow exists in the GnuTLS TLS backend when parsing the Subject Alternative Name extension of a peer certificate (tls_cert_get_info() in ssl_sock_gtls.c). Only GnuTLS builds are affected (--with-gnutls); OpenSSL and Apple SecureTransport/Network.framework builds are not affected. While extracting certificate information after a TLS handshake, an incorrect buffer-size value can cause an oversized SubjectAltName entry to be written past the end of a fixed-size stack buffer. A network-positioned attacker presenting a crafted certificate — a malicious server to a connecting client, or a malicious client to a server that requests certificates — can trigger this during the TLS handshake, before any SIP-level authentication. Impact may range from unexpected application termination to control flow hijack/memory corruption. This issue has been patched via commit c4a151a.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":8.8},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:H","score":9.1},"cwes":["CWE-121"],"references":["https://github.com/pjsip/pjproject/commit/c4a151af86fadd16d9480b2603eeb2abf4fb4f78","https://github.com/pjsip/pjproject/security/advisories/GHSA-jm2j-6rg6-qvwx"],"products":["teluu:pjsip"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:52:03.409947763+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-57163","score":0.00402,"percentile":0.34434,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
