{"cve":"CVE-2026-55857","nvd":{"published":"2026-08-28T23:17:08.680","modified":"2026-09-08T21:08:37.320","status":"Awaiting Analysis","description":"MariaDB Connector/J is used to connect applications developed in Java to MariaDB and MySQL databases. Prior to 2.7.14, 3.3.5, 3.4.3, and 3.5.9, PAM dialog authentication can be coerced into transmitting the account password over an insecure connection. The mysql_clear_password plugin is gated behind a secure transport, but the sibling PAM handler SendPamAuthPacketFactory, named dialog by the server, does not declare that requirement and inherits the default secure-required value false; older branches implement the same affected behavior in SendPamAuthPacket. A hostile or man-in-the-middle server can send an Authentication Switch Request for dialog over plain TCP, causing the driver to return the user's password in cleartext when sslMode=DISABLE and restrictedAuth=null, which is the default configuration. Properly verified TLS and local Unix sockets are not exposed to this transport vector. This issue is fixed in versions 2.7.14, 3.3.5, 3.4.3, and 3.5.9.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":5.9},"cwes":["CWE-319","CWE-522"],"references":["https://github.com/mariadb-corporation/mariadb-connector-j/commit/a8599ab1cbe4b8818ea945bf56a4e012c302b388","https://github.com/mariadb-corporation/mariadb-connector-j/commit/f4a727c764d1cf48fd0c3d5e301dfa92503e0a58","https://github.com/mariadb-corporation/mariadb-connector-j/releases/tag/3.4.3","https://github.com/mariadb-corporation/mariadb-connector-j/releases/tag/3.5.9","https://github.com/mariadb-corporation/mariadb-connector-j/security/advisories/GHSA-qxvw-fvwx-5cp7"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:50:50.842544443+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-55857","score":0.0039,"percentile":0.33174,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-qxvw-fvwx-5cp7","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-qxvw-fvwx-5cp7","summary":"org.mariadb.jdbc:mariadb-java-client has Cleartext Transmission of Sensitive Information and Insufficiently Protected Credentials","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:54.150899935Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.mariadb.jdbc:mariadb-java-client","purl":"pkg:maven/org.mariadb.jdbc/mariadb-java-client","ranges":["<2.7.14"],"fixed":["2.7.14"]},{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.mariadb.jdbc:mariadb-java-client","purl":"pkg:maven/org.mariadb.jdbc/mariadb-java-client","ranges":[">=3.0.0 <3.3.5"],"fixed":["3.3.5"]},{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.mariadb.jdbc:mariadb-java-client","purl":"pkg:maven/org.mariadb.jdbc/mariadb-java-client","ranges":[">=3.4.0 <3.4.3"],"fixed":["3.4.3"]},{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.mariadb.jdbc:mariadb-java-client","purl":"pkg:maven/org.mariadb.jdbc/mariadb-java-client","ranges":[">=3.5.0 <3.5.9"],"fixed":["3.5.9"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
