Prior to 6.0.0-rc.2, 5.2.0, and 4.9.3, piscina's constructor and run() paths read the filename option via plain member access. Both reads fall through the prototype chain when the caller's options object doesn't have filename as an own property. When Object.prototype.filename is polluted upstream the inherited value flows to worker_threads.Worker import and the attacker's .mjs runs in the worker. This vulnerability is fixed in 6.0.0-rc.2, 5.2.0, and 4.9.3.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":8.1},"cwes":["CWE-94","CWE-1321"],"references":["https://github.com/piscinajs/piscina/security/advisories/GHSA-x9g3-xrwr-cwfg","https://github.com/piscinajs/piscina/security/advisories/GHSA-x9g3-xrwr-cwfg"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-25T23:44:33.281319194+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-55388","score":0.00454,"percentile":0.39177,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-x9g3-xrwr-cwfg","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-x9g3-xrwr-cwfg","summary":"piscina: Prototype Pollution Gadget → RCE via inherited options.filename","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:12.257395202Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"piscina","purl":"pkg:npm/piscina","ranges":[">=5.0.0-alpha.0 <5.2.0"],"fixed":["5.2.0"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"piscina","purl":"pkg:npm/piscina","ranges":["<4.9.3"],"fixed":["4.9.3"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"piscina","purl":"pkg:npm/piscina","ranges":[">=6.0.0-rc.1 <6.0.0-rc.2"],"fixed":["6.0.0-rc.2"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
