{"cve":"CVE-2026-55226","nvd":{"published":"2026-09-15T18:17:23.807","modified":"2026-09-30T17:43:24.057","status":"Awaiting Analysis","description":"Strimzi provides a way to run an Apache Kafka cluster on Kubernetes or OpenShift in various deployment configurations. In Strimzi 1.0.0 and earlier, deploying only the Topic Operator or only the User Operator through the Kafka custom resource leaves the Entity Operator ServiceAccount with RBAC permissions for both components. The excess permissions can allow access to KafkaUser custom resources and Secrets when the User Operator is absent, or access to KafkaTopic custom resources when the Topic Operator is absent. This issue is fixed in versions 1.0.1 and 1.1.0.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:A/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:L/A:N","score":5.4},"cwes":["CWE-269","CWE-272"],"references":["https://github.com/strimzi/strimzi-kafka-operator/commit/b3bfeffcc30754c3e62e6f4afd8a76942cac440d","https://github.com/strimzi/strimzi-kafka-operator/commit/f6c5207ba7ec89b46ce6720b8638d647e556a261","https://github.com/strimzi/strimzi-kafka-operator/pull/12844","https://github.com/strimzi/strimzi-kafka-operator/releases/tag/1.0.1","https://github.com/strimzi/strimzi-kafka-operator/releases/tag/1.1.0"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:54:41.405518556+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-55226","score":0.0025,"percentile":0.16202,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-r427-j2h7-wv3m","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-r427-j2h7-wv3m","summary":"Strimzi: Unrestricted access to all Secrets within namespace watched by the Topic operator","modified":"2026-06-18T13:26:31.032797Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"io.strimzi:strimzi","purl":"pkg:maven/io.strimzi/strimzi","ranges":["<1.0.1"],"fixed":["1.0.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
