{"cve":"CVE-2026-55225","nvd":{"published":"2026-09-15T18:17:23.667","modified":"2026-09-30T17:43:24.057","status":"Awaiting Analysis","description":"Strimzi provides a way to run an Apache Kafka cluster on Kubernetes or OpenShift in various deployment configurations. In Strimzi 1.0.0 and earlier, an attacker who can create a Kafka custom resource can set Kafka.spec.entityOperator watchedNamespace to a target namespace, causing the Cluster Operator to create a Role with full Secret CRUD permissions there and bind it to the Entity Operator ServiceAccount in the attacker's namespace. The attacker can mint a token for that ServiceAccount and read or write Secrets in any target namespace where the Cluster Operator has been granted permissions, regardless of STRIMZI_NAMESPACE. This issue is fixed in versions 1.0.1 and 1.1.0.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:A/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":8.0},"cwes":["CWE-269","CWE-441","CWE-250"],"references":["https://github.com/strimzi/strimzi-kafka-operator/commit/b3bfeffcc30754c3e62e6f4afd8a76942cac440d","https://github.com/strimzi/strimzi-kafka-operator/commit/f6c5207ba7ec89b46ce6720b8638d647e556a261","https://github.com/strimzi/strimzi-kafka-operator/pull/12844","https://github.com/strimzi/strimzi-kafka-operator/releases/tag/1.0.1","https://github.com/strimzi/strimzi-kafka-operator/releases/tag/1.1.0"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:54:41.405518556+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-55225","score":0.00295,"percentile":0.21921,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-mw9r-p8xp-wx96","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-mw9r-p8xp-wx96","summary":"Strimzi: Cross-namespace privilege escalation via `Kafka.spec.entityOperator`","modified":"2026-06-18T13:26:29.892173Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"io.strimzi:strimzi","purl":"pkg:maven/io.strimzi/strimzi","ranges":["<1.0.1"],"fixed":["1.0.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
