In versions prior to 3.17.2, Oj.load is vulnerable to heap corruption when parsing a JSON string longer than 2 GB. An integer overflow in buf_append_string (buf.h:61) converts the string length to a large negative size_t, causing memcpy to copy an astronomically large amount of data out of bounds. This crashes the process and can corrupt adjacent heap memory. The issue has been fixed in version 3.17.2.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":6.3},"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":["CWE-190"],"references":["https://github.com/ohler55/oj/security/advisories/GHSA-475m-ph3x-64gp","https://github.com/ohler55/oj/security/advisories/GHSA-475m-ph3x-64gp"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-25T17:50:06.907763985+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-54903","score":0.00333,"percentile":0.26252,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-475m-ph3x-64gp","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-475m-ph3x-64gp","summary":"Oj: Integer Overflow in Oj.load 2GB String Handling","modified":"2026-09-10T03:51:07.824466317Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"RubyGems","name":"oj","purl":"pkg:gem/oj","ranges":["<3.17.3"],"fixed":["3.17.3"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
