{"cve":"CVE-2026-54757","nvd":{"published":"2026-08-25T23:17:19.277","modified":"2026-09-09T21:09:13.080","status":"Deferred","description":"Compliance-trestle (Trestle) is a Python SDK and command-line tool for managing OSCAL compliance documents. In versions before 3.12.4 and versions 4.0.0 through 4.0.3, Trestle is vulnerable to server-side template injection that can lead to remote code execution. This occurs because the MDCleanInclude and MDSectionInclude Jinja2 tags re-parse untrusted Markdown content as template source code using a non-sandboxed jinja2.Environment. An attacker who controls content that Trestle renders, such as a crafted workspace Markdown file, a third-party SSP document, or a YAML lookup-table value, can inject a Jinja2 expression that traverses Python object internals to execute arbitrary operating system commands in the context of the Trestle process. This issue is fixed in versions 3.12.4 and 4.1.0.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.8},"cwes":["CWE-94"],"references":["https://github.com/oscal-compass/compliance-trestle/commit/0f82d19bd42f9cc0f1b3acd7fc3f6dafe3b6ae10","https://github.com/oscal-compass/compliance-trestle/commit/5335ff873a2a68eb7de43df029bea09cadff22fd","https://github.com/oscal-compass/compliance-trestle/security/advisories/GHSA-jw39-3688-r4rx","https://github.com/oscal-compass/compliance-trestle/security/advisories/GHSA-jw39-3688-r4rx"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:50:17.453294893+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-54757","score":0.00364,"percentile":0.303,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-jw39-3688-r4rx","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-jw39-3688-r4rx","summary":"Trestle has Server-Side Template Injection (SSTI) via Recursive Template Re-evaluation of Untrusted Data","modified":"2026-09-10T12:25:55.209686350Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"compliance-trestle","purl":"pkg:pypi/compliance-trestle","ranges":["<3.12.4"],"fixed":["3.12.4"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"compliance-trestle","purl":"pkg:pypi/compliance-trestle","ranges":[">=4.0.0 <4.1.0"],"fixed":["4.1.0"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-3817","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-3817","summary":"Trestle has Server-Side Template Injection (SSTI) via Recursive Template Re-evaluation of Untrusted Data","modified":"2026-09-10T12:15:05.048979340Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"compliance-trestle","purl":"pkg:pypi/compliance-trestle","ranges":["<3.12.4",">=4.0.0 <4.1.0"],"fixed":["3.12.4","4.1.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
