{"cve":"CVE-2026-54463","nvd":{"published":"2026-07-17T20:17:26.633","modified":"2026-10-24T20:10:00.137","status":"Analyzed","description":"websocket-driver is a WebSocket protocol handler with pluggable I/O. Prior to 0.8.1, draft versions of the WebSocket protocol in websocket-driver include a length header that allows an arbitrarily large integer to be encoded as bytes with the high bit set, and a server or client can send an indefinite sequence of 0x80 or higher bytes that the peer parses into an ever-growing Ruby integer. This can make a WebSocket connection consume an unbounded amount of memory and lead to the host process running out of memory. This issue is fixed in version 0.8.1.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:L","score":6.9},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-770"],"references":["https://github.com/faye/websocket-driver-ruby/commit/d0141f041f6e3677a951255d547a313e732ccbe0","https://github.com/faye/websocket-driver-ruby/security/advisories/GHSA-ghhp-3qvg-889p"],"products":["faye:websocket-driver"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-25T17:50:08.599881581+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-54463","score":0.00488,"percentile":0.41709,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-ghhp-3qvg-889p","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-ghhp-3qvg-889p","summary":"websocket-driver: Memory exhaustion via abuse of protocol length headers","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:52.264963603Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"RubyGems","name":"websocket-driver","purl":"pkg:gem/websocket-driver","ranges":["<0.8.1"],"fixed":["0.8.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
