{"cve":"CVE-2026-54448","nvd":{"published":"2026-06-25T17:16:41.257","modified":"2026-10-25T22:10:00.150","status":"Analyzed","description":"Trivy is a security scanner. Prior to 0.71.0, when Trivy scans a Helm chart archive (.tgz), its custom tar unpacker reads each entry with io.ReadAll(tr) and no size limit. An attacker who can place a malicious .tgz file in the scanned path can craft a small compressed archive that decompresses to gigabytes, causing the Trivy process to be killed by the OS OOM killer. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.71.0.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":6.9},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":6.5},"cwes":["CWE-770","CWE-789"],"references":["https://github.com/aquasecurity/trivy/pull/10718","https://github.com/aquasecurity/trivy/security/advisories/GHSA-q3fv-x8vg-qqm4","https://github.com/aquasecurity/trivy/pull/10718","https://github.com/aquasecurity/trivy/security/advisories/GHSA-q3fv-x8vg-qqm4"],"products":["aquasec:trivy"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-25T23:44:33.281319194+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-54448","score":0.00443,"percentile":0.38219,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-q3fv-x8vg-qqm4","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-q3fv-x8vg-qqm4","summary":"Trivy: Helm chart tar bomb causes OOM via unbounded io.ReadAll in parser","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:52.806890655Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/aquasecurity/trivy","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/aquasecurity/trivy","ranges":["<0.71.0"],"fixed":["0.71.0"]}]},{"id":"GO-2026-5983","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GO-2026-5983","summary":"Trivy: Helm chart tar bomb causes OOM via unbounded io.ReadAll in parser in github.com/aquasecurity/trivy","modified":"2026-07-28T15:15:01.389987401Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/aquasecurity/trivy","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/aquasecurity/trivy","ranges":["<0.71.0"],"fixed":["0.71.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
