{"cve":"CVE-2026-54291","nvd":{"published":"2026-07-06T19:17:08.407","modified":"2026-07-09T13:16:25.717","status":"Analyzed","description":"pgjdbc is an open source postgresql JDBC Driver. In releases 42.7.4 through 42.7.11, channelBinding=require connections can be silently downgraded from SCRAM-SHA-256-PLUS with channel binding to plain SCRAM-SHA-256 without it, losing the man-in-the-middle protection the setting is meant to guarantee. An attacker who can intercept the TLS connection can trigger the downgrade with a certificate whose signature algorithm has no tls-server-end-point channel-binding hash, because the bundled com.ongres.scram:scram-client returns an empty byte array instead of failing and pgJDBC ScramAuthenticator checks only that the server advertised a PLUS mechanism, without rejecting the empty binding or checking that the negotiated mechanism uses channel binding. This issue is fixed in version 42.7.12.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:H/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:H/VA:N/SC:N/SI:L/SA:N","score":8.2},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N","score":5.9},"cwes":["CWE-636","CWE-757"],"references":["https://github.com/ongres/scram/releases/tag/3.3","https://github.com/pgjdbc/pgjdbc/commit/77df98e4e66c12936ded3478a0954f6f580bad99","https://github.com/pgjdbc/pgjdbc/security/advisories/GHSA-j92g-9f8w-j867"],"products":["postgresql:postgresql_jdbc_driver"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:42:16.820116992+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-54291","score":0.00236,"percentile":0.14684,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-j92g-9f8w-j867","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-j92g-9f8w-j867","summary":"PostgreSQL JDBC Driver: Silent channel-binding authentication downgrade via unsupported certificate algorithms","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:12.377062079Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.postgresql:postgresql","purl":"pkg:maven/org.postgresql/postgresql","ranges":[">=42.7.4 <42.7.12"],"fixed":["42.7.12"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
