In versions prior to 7.0.8, 7.3.3 and 7.4.2, due to a missing permission check on the image preview endpoint, a user with access to the Wagtail admin can preview any image. The existing data of the image object itself is not exposed. The vulnerability is not exploitable by an ordinary site visitor without access to the Wagtail admin. This issue has been fixed in versions 7.0.8, 7.3.3, and 7.4.2.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":6.5},"cwes":["CWE-280"],"references":["https://github.com/wagtail/wagtail/security/advisories/GHSA-r6p4-grq7-xm4m"],"products":["torchbox:wagtail"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:42:16.820116992+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-54261","score":0.0034,"percentile":0.27557,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-r6p4-grq7-xm4m","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-r6p4-grq7-xm4m","summary":"Wagtail: Improper permission handling in image preview","modified":"2026-08-20T18:45:16.117327719Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"wagtail","purl":"pkg:pypi/wagtail","ranges":["<7.0.8"],"fixed":["7.0.8"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"wagtail","purl":"pkg:pypi/wagtail","ranges":[">=7.1 <7.3.3"],"fixed":["7.3.3"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"wagtail","purl":"pkg:pypi/wagtail","ranges":[">=7.4 <7.4.2"],"fixed":["7.4.2"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-614","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-614","summary":"","modified":"2026-07-03T13:45:08.093564363Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"wagtail","purl":"pkg:pypi/wagtail","ranges":["<7.0.8",">=7.1 <7.3.3",">=7.4 <7.4.2"],"fixed":["7.0.8","7.3.3","7.4.2"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
