Prior to 0.9.6, Open WebUI has a Broken Object Level Authorization (BOLA) vulnerability in the builtin search_knowledge_files tool. When native function calling is enabled and the selected model has no attached knowledge bases, an authenticated user can call search_knowledge_files with an arbitrary knowledge_id. The function then returns file metadata from that knowledge base without checking whether the user has read access. This allows unauthorized enumeration of private or restricted knowledge base files. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.9.6.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N","score":4.3},"cwes":["CWE-639"],"references":["https://github.com/open-webui/open-webui/security/advisories/GHSA-cx9v-4qj2-jrw6","https://github.com/open-webui/open-webui/security/advisories/GHSA-cx9v-4qj2-jrw6"],"products":["openwebui:open_webui"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:41:17.107060303+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-54016","score":0.00304,"percentile":0.23173,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-cx9v-4qj2-jrw6","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-cx9v-4qj2-jrw6","summary":"Open WebUI BOLA: `search_knowledge_files` Allows Unauthorized Knowledge Base File Enumeration","modified":"2026-07-20T21:15:27.376419506Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"open-webui","purl":"pkg:pypi/open-webui","ranges":["<0.9.6"],"fixed":["0.9.6"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-2721","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-2721","summary":"Open WebUI BOLA: `search_knowledge_files` Allows Unauthorized Knowledge Base File Enumeration","modified":"2026-07-13T16:32:19.854779784Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"open-webui","purl":"pkg:pypi/open-webui","ranges":["<0.9.6"],"fixed":["0.9.6"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
