Prior to 0.9.6,Open WebUI renders Mermaid blocks from Markdown files in the file preview panel and inserts the generated SVG into the DOM using innerHTML. Because Mermaid is configured with securityLevel: 'loose', attacker-controlled Mermaid content can be rendered unsafely in this flow. A working payload was validated through the Markdown preview path, resulting in JavaScript execution in the victim’s browser under the application origin. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.9.6.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N","score":5.4},"cwes":["CWE-79"],"references":["https://github.com/open-webui/open-webui/security/advisories/GHSA-v8qj-hxv7-mgvv","https://github.com/open-webui/open-webui/security/advisories/GHSA-v8qj-hxv7-mgvv"],"products":["openwebui:open_webui"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:41:17.107060303+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-54011","score":0.00336,"percentile":0.27013,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-v8qj-hxv7-mgvv","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-v8qj-hxv7-mgvv","summary":"Open WebUI: Stored XSS in Mermaid Markdown Preview","modified":"2026-07-20T21:15:24.578552416Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"open-webui","purl":"pkg:pypi/open-webui","ranges":["<0.9.6"],"fixed":["0.9.6"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-2759","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-2759","summary":"Open WebUI: Stored XSS in Mermaid Markdown Preview","modified":"2026-07-13T16:32:24.951226218Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"open-webui","purl":"pkg:pypi/open-webui","ranges":["<0.9.6"],"fixed":["0.9.6"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
