{"cve":"CVE-2026-53995","nvd":{"published":"2026-10-19T22:17:11.013","modified":"2026-10-20T20:06:37.150","status":"Awaiting Analysis","description":"MLflow 3.17.1 and earlier contains a path traversal vulnerability in the FileStore tracking backend that allows unauthenticated attackers to control filesystem paths by submitting a crafted trace ID containing traversal sequences to the POST /api/3.0/mlflow/traces endpoint. Attackers can exploit FileStore.start_trace() to write trace_info.yaml, request_metadata, and tag files with attacker-controlled metadata outside the intended experiment trace directory, subject to the server process's filesystem permissions. FileStore is the default tracking backend before MLflow 3.7.0 and opt-in thereafter (the default changed to a SQLite database), so deployments in the earlier part of the affected range are vulnerable without special configuration while later ones are affected only when FileStore is explicitly selected.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:H/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":8.8},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:L","score":8.2},"cwes":["CWE-22"],"references":["https://github.com/SaiTeja-Erukude/CVE-2026-53995-mlflow-path-traversal","https://github.com/mlflow/mlflow/pull/26842","https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/mlflow-path-traversal-via-trace-id-api"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-21T03:56:58.798400159+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-53995","score":0.00604,"percentile":0.48608,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-wqmh-qccw-pqwf","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-wqmh-qccw-pqwf","summary":"MLflow FileStore trace IDs allow path traversal and arbitrary file writes","modified":"2026-10-26T08:55:45.131986681Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"mlflow","purl":"pkg:pypi/mlflow","ranges":["<3.17.2"],"fixed":["3.17.2"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
