{"cve":"CVE-2026-53765","nvd":{"published":"2026-06-24T22:16:47.783","modified":"2026-10-25T23:10:00.167","status":"Analyzed","description":"Chrome DevTools for agents (chrome-devtools-mcp) lets your coding agent control and inspect a live Chrome browser. From 0.20.0 until 1.1.0, The chrome-devtools-mcp daemon writes its PID file with fs.writeFileSync() to a deterministic runtime path. On typical macOS environments, and on Linux sessions where $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR is unset, that runtime path falls back to /tmp/chrome-devtools-mcp-<uid>/daemon.pid. Because the write does not use O_NOFOLLOW, a local low-privilege user on the same POSIX host can pre-create /tmp/chrome-devtools-mcp-<victim_uid>/daemon.pid as a symlink to a file writable by the victim. When the victim later starts daemon mode, fs.writeFileSync() follows the symlink and truncates the target file to the daemon PID string. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.1.0.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:L","score":6.1},"cwes":["CWE-59"],"references":["https://github.com/ChromeDevTools/chrome-devtools-mcp/security/advisories/GHSA-3pvj-jv98-qhjq"],"products":["google:chrome-devtools-mcp"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-25T23:44:33.281319194+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-53765","score":0.00104,"percentile":0.00995,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-3pvj-jv98-qhjq","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-3pvj-jv98-qhjq","summary":"Chrome DevTools for agents: daemon.pid write follows symlinks in /tmp fallback runtime directory","modified":"2026-07-21T13:45:26.607233275Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"chrome-devtools-mcp","purl":"pkg:npm/chrome-devtools-mcp","ranges":[">=0.20.0 <1.1.0"],"fixed":["1.1.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
