{"cve":"CVE-2026-53319","nvd":{"published":"2026-06-26T20:17:25.230","modified":"2026-07-06T20:12:26.307","status":"Analyzed","description":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nblk-wbt: remove WARN_ON_ONCE from wbt_init_enable_default()\n\nwbt_init_enable_default() uses WARN_ON_ONCE to check for failures from\nwbt_alloc() and wbt_init(). However, both are expected failure paths:\n\n- wbt_alloc() can return NULL under memory pressure (-ENOMEM)\n- wbt_init() can fail with -EBUSY if wbt is already registered\n\nsyzbot triggers this by injecting memory allocation failures during MTD\npartition creation via ioctl(BLKPG), causing a spurious warning.\n\nwbt_init_enable_default() is a best-effort initialization called from\nblk_register_queue() with a void return type. Failure simply means the\ndisk operates without writeback throttling, which is harmless.\n\nReplace WARN_ON_ONCE with plain if-checks, consistent with how\nwbt_set_lat() in the same file already handles these failures. Add a\npr_warn() for the wbt_init() failure to retain diagnostic information\nwithout triggering a full stack trace.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":5.5},"cwes":["CWE-617"],"references":["https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/e9b004ff83067cdf96774b45aea4b239ace99a2f","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/fd7a982657077469802594a5165bc30b9a55af70"],"products":["linux:linux_kernel"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:41:17.107060303+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-53319","score":0.00143,"percentile":0.0362,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
