{"cve":"CVE-2026-53116","nvd":{"published":"2026-06-24T17:17:25.993","modified":"2026-07-23T21:30:53.723","status":"Analyzed","description":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\ns390/ap: use generic driver_override infrastructure\n\nWhen the AP masks are updated via apmask_store() or aqmask_store(),\nap_bus_revise_bindings() is called after ap_attr_mutex has been\nreleased.\n\nThis calls __ap_revise_reserved(), which accesses the driver_override\nfield without holding any lock, racing against a concurrent\ndriver_override_store() that may free the old string, resulting in a\npotential UAF.\n\nFix this by using the driver-core driver_override infrastructure, which\nprotects all accesses with an internal spinlock.\n\nNote that unlike most other buses, the AP bus does not check\ndriver_override in its match() callback; the override is checked in\nap_device_probe() and __ap_revise_reserved() instead.\n\nAlso note that we do not enable the driver_override feature of struct\nbus_type, as AP - in contrast to most other buses - passes \"\" to\nsysfs_emit() when the driver_override pointer is NULL. Thus, printing\n\"\\n\" instead of \"(null)\\n\".\n\nAdditionally, AP has a custom counter that is modified in the\ncorresponding custom driver_override_store().","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.8},"cwes":["CWE-416"],"references":["https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/81d6f7c3a70b10ff757ee8b5f8114a190871cf1e","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/8f2eca0570438b94602da1297353eb7b10dcb6cb"],"products":["linux:linux_kernel"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:41:17.107060303+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-53116","score":0.00165,"percentile":0.05713,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
