Prior to 2.11.4, on Windows, Caddy path matchers treat /private\\secret.txt as outside /private/*, but file_server later resolves the same request path as private\\secret.txt on disk. An unauthenticated remote client can bypass Caddy path-scoped auth/deny routes protecting /private/*. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.11.4.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-22","CWE-284"],"references":["https://github.com/caddyserver/caddy/security/advisories/GHSA-qrp7-cvwr-j2c6","https://github.com/caddyserver/caddy/security/advisories/GHSA-qrp7-cvwr-j2c6"],"products":["caddyserver:caddy"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-25T23:44:33.281319194+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-52844","score":0.00619,"percentile":0.49367,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-qrp7-cvwr-j2c6","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-qrp7-cvwr-j2c6","summary":"Caddy: Windows `file_server` path authorization bypass via encoded backslash","modified":"2026-07-24T19:11:20.687133571Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/caddyserver/caddy/v2","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/caddyserver/caddy/v2","ranges":["<2.11.4"],"fixed":["2.11.4"]},{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/caddyserver/caddy","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/caddyserver/caddy","ranges":["<=1.0.5"],"fixed":[]}]},{"id":"GO-2026-5595","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GO-2026-5595","summary":"Caddy: Windows file server path authorization bypass via encoded backslash in github.com/caddyserver/caddy","modified":"2026-07-24T19:00:24.317153778Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/caddyserver/caddy/v2","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/caddyserver/caddy/v2","ranges":["<2.11.4"],"fixed":["2.11.4"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
