{"cve":"CVE-2026-52817","nvd":{"published":"2026-08-18T21:16:34.820","modified":"2026-10-22T22:10:00.250","status":"Deferred","description":"Linuxfabrik Monitoring Plugins provides monitoring plugins for Icinga, Nagios, and related systems. Prior to version 5.1.0, the shipped assets/sudoers/Debian.sudoers policy allowed the nagios or icinga account to execute /usr/bin/apt-get as root without restricting its arguments. An attacker who already controls that monitoring account can supply the APT::Update::Pre-Invoke option to execute an arbitrary command while apt-get runs with root privileges, resulting in a root shell and complete compromise of the host. The vulnerable rule supports the check-plugins/deb-updates/deb-updates plugin, but it authorized arbitrary apt-get argument sequences rather than only the required apt-get update --quiet 2 command. This issue is fixed in version 5.1.0.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:H/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:P","score":7.0},"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":["CWE-88"],"references":["https://github.com/Linuxfabrik/monitoring-plugins/blob/main/CHANGELOG.md#v510---2026-05-30","https://github.com/Linuxfabrik/monitoring-plugins/commit/694b5daeebadc9a51428f3de1acff7b1f737642f","https://github.com/Linuxfabrik/monitoring-plugins/releases/tag/v5.1.0","https://github.com/Linuxfabrik/monitoring-plugins/security/advisories/GHSA-8w6w-23mq-h8rg","https://github.com/Linuxfabrik/monitoring-plugins/security/advisories/GHSA-8w6w-23mq-h8rg"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-23T16:39:26.291718493+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-52817","score":0.0018,"percentile":0.07484,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-8w6w-23mq-h8rg","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-8w6w-23mq-h8rg","summary":"Linuxfabrik Monitoring Plugins: Sudoers may be able to obtain privilege escalation via /usr/bin/apt-get arguments","modified":"2026-07-13T16:42:32.446708688Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"linuxfabrik-lib","purl":"pkg:pypi/linuxfabrik-lib","ranges":["<5.1.0"],"fixed":["5.1.0"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-2595","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-2595","summary":"Linuxfabrik Monitoring Plugins: Sudoers may be able to obtain privilege escalation via /usr/bin/apt-get arguments","modified":"2026-07-13T16:32:03.535840022Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"linuxfabrik-lib","purl":"pkg:pypi/linuxfabrik-lib","ranges":["<5.1.0"],"fixed":["5.1.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
