{"cve":"CVE-2026-52724","nvd":{"published":"2026-09-15T15:17:17.110","modified":"2026-09-30T17:43:24.057","status":"Awaiting Analysis","description":"Kuma is a modern Envoy-based service mesh that can run on every cloud across both Kubernetes and VMs. Prior to 2.7.26, 2.9.16, 2.11.14, 2.12.11, and 2.13.7, Universal mode kuma-dp connections to an HTTPS control plane disable TLS peer verification when --ca-cert-file is not supplied and KUMA_CONTROL_PLANE_CA_CERT is unset. The dataplane authentication token is sent over the unverified connection, allowing an on-path attacker to intercept the token, impersonate the control plane, inject a forged bootstrap configuration, and take over the proxy. Standard Kubernetes installations created by kumactl install control-plane or the official Helm chart are unaffected because the mutating admission webhook injects KUMA_CONTROL_PLANE_CA_CERT into each sidecar. This issue is fixed in versions 2.7.26, 2.9.16, 2.11.14, 2.12.11, and 2.13.7.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:A/AC:H/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:N/SC:H/SI:H/SA:H","score":5.8},"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":["CWE-295"],"references":["https://github.com/kumahq/kuma/commit/2d0fb382924598f8746bc85c896f50384675940f","https://github.com/kumahq/kuma/commit/85716397ffa404234bf365da0967eca0b0fa1870","https://github.com/kumahq/kuma/commit/a256af4869ae7e0ebbc2a14dc231e04ac8df1ba3","https://github.com/kumahq/kuma/commit/bb56ae628753aaec1f7846a514ab4edc35c0b569","https://github.com/kumahq/kuma/commit/d4ae0c0151596be991897651f20c5cdf32de1980"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:53:43.293028046+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-52724","score":0.0035,"percentile":0.28369,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-wvmp-6r4v-j6cv","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-wvmp-6r4v-j6cv","summary":"kuma-dp connects to control plane without verifying TLS certificate when no CA is configured","modified":"2026-08-13T04:10:47.070428214Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/kumahq/kuma/v2","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/kumahq/kuma/v2","ranges":["<2.7.26"],"fixed":["2.7.26"]},{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/kumahq/kuma/v2","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/kumahq/kuma/v2","ranges":[">=2.8.0 <2.9.16"],"fixed":["2.9.16"]},{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/kumahq/kuma/v2","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/kumahq/kuma/v2","ranges":[">=2.10.0 <2.11.14"],"fixed":["2.11.14"]},{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/kumahq/kuma/v2","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/kumahq/kuma/v2","ranges":[">=2.12.0 <2.12.11"],"fixed":["2.12.11"]},{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/kumahq/kuma/v2","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/kumahq/kuma/v2","ranges":[">=2.13.0 <2.13.7"],"fixed":["2.13.7"]},{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/kumahq/kuma","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/kumahq/kuma","ranges":["<=1.8.1"],"fixed":[]}]},{"id":"GO-2026-6013","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GO-2026-6013","summary":"kuma-dp connects to control plane without verifying TLS certificate when no CA is configured in github.com/kumahq/kuma","modified":"2026-08-13T04:10:47.070428214Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/kumahq/kuma","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/kumahq/kuma","ranges":["all versions"],"fixed":[]},{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/kumahq/kuma/v2","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/kumahq/kuma/v2","ranges":["<2.7.26",">=2.9.13 <2.11.14",">=2.12.4 <2.12.11",">=2.13.0 <2.13.7"],"fixed":["2.7.26","2.11.14","2.12.11","2.13.7"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
