Prior to 2026.06.09, if aria2c is used as an external downloader for a fragmented manifest format (such as an HLS/DASH stream), yt-dlp passes insufficiently sanitized input to aria2c that allows an attacker to perform an arbitrary file write. On Windows platforms, this can lead to immediate arbitrary code execution. On non-Windows platforms, this can lead to arbitrary code execution upon the next invocation of yt-dlp. This vulnerability is fixed in 2026.06.09.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":9.6},"cwes":["CWE-74"],"references":["https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp/security/advisories/GHSA-vx4q-3cr2-7cg2"],"products":["yt-dlp_project:yt-dlp"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:39:28.638635428+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-50574","score":0.00465,"percentile":0.40256,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-vx4q-3cr2-7cg2","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-vx4q-3cr2-7cg2","summary":"yt-dlp: Arbitrary code execution via manifest downloads with aria2c","modified":"2026-07-20T14:00:25.705245102Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"yt-dlp","purl":"pkg:pypi/yt-dlp","ranges":["<2026.6.9"],"fixed":["2026.6.9"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-3433","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-3433","summary":"yt-dlp: Arbitrary code execution via manifest downloads with aria2c","modified":"2026-07-13T16:33:27.793655416Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"yt-dlp","purl":"pkg:pypi/yt-dlp","ranges":["<2026.6.9"],"fixed":["2026.6.9"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
